Live Zoom-based Art Classes

Over seven weeks, this visual art course is designed to be fun and engaging, as we learn the fundamentals of art and apply them practically in weekly projects. Each week, the class will work step by step on a piece, learning foundational skills that will be reflected in the student’s work, as well as learning different techniques to achieve a variety of art styles. Currently, we have a beginner and intermediate class available.

Things that we will learn in the Beginner Curriculum:

  1. Basic forms and introduction to different pencil strokes

  2. Continuation of basic forms and introduction to watercolour

  3. Stippling technique in watercolour for landscapes

  4. Introduction to perspective and shading with watercolour

  5. Continuation in perspective and variegated washes for watercolour

  6. Using lines to create direction and chiaroscuro

  7. Multiple subjects interacting and more complex shapes and perspectives

Things that we will learn in the Intermediate Curriculum:

  1. Simplification of complex forms and illusion of detail

  2. Chinese ink-wash painting techniques replicated in watercolour

  3. Colour blocking and shading techniques for fineliner

  4. Artistic anatomy and modifying forms in patterns

  5. Minimalist linework and exaggeration of form

  6. Multi-point perspective and variation of shape

  7. Precise detail with adjusting values in watercolour and more complex anatomy

The times available are:

 Monday: 1 pm - 2 pm (AEDT, Melbourne/Sydney time)

 Wednesday: 11 am - 12 pm (AEDT, Melbourne/Sydney time)

 Friday: 1 pm - 2 pm (AEDT, Melbourne/Sydney time)

Cost:

AUD $70 for the whole term.

Do note that these lessons are dependent on interest. If there are more beginner students than two classes can accommodate, then two classes will be allotted to them, and vice versa.

Q/A:

What is the difference between the beginner and intermediate classes, and what requirements are needed for each?

The classes are not split up by age but purely by what would be most appropriate for the students themselves. As the lessons are in a group and on Zoom, to ensure everyone can keep up and enjoy themselves, such distinctions are necessary.

The requirements for the beginner class are simply an eager spirit and sufficient motor skills to hold the tools needed to draw. The art made in this class will be simpler than that of the intermediate class, focusing on foundational skills such as shapes and lines.

The art we will be working on in the intermediate class is more detailed and precise in its design, refining foundational skills and introducing anatomy, perspective, and more advanced techniques. As such, to ensure students are not overwhelmed, those who’d like to take this class should have solid motor skills and the ability to understand and apply what we are learning.

(Examples of the works for the beginner and intermediate classes may be asked for personally.)

Benefits of Art

Children are artists. Pablo Picasso, the famous painter, was very talented from a young age and was known as

a "child prodigy." He believed that every child was an artist — and they are!

Making art is about trying new materials, experimenting, and having fun!

"Students who have arts-rich experiences are much more likely to do better academically, to be more confident about who they are, and to be able to understand the perspectives of others", said Professor Robyn Ewing AM of The University of Sydney.

Three decades of academic research show the need for high-quality creative experiences across the curriculum.

The benefits of children doing art are numerous!

'Homeschool Easy JW Kids' supports the global homeschool community of Jehovah's Witnesses with wholesome and Bible-friendly publications and resources. Our goal is to help safeguard our children's hearts by eliminating Bible-conflicting resources in homeschool education and providing them with a wholesome online association.
